Question - how to tell what services are supporting a scanner

We use Epson DS-510 scanners for all our scanning. For the past three years we've been using these scanners, and often they'll refuse to connect, giving the "Cannot communicate with scanner" error message. I've tried everything to get them to reconnect once this error pops up. The only thing that works is rebooting the computer. It's happened on three different computers, first on Windows 7, and then the issue seemed to get worse after switching to windows 10.
What I've tried so far:
It's happening on two different scanners of the same model, on two different computers
Tried replacing USB cords, tried in usb 2.0 port, usb 3.0 port
Powering off/ on again scanner
disconnecting/ reconnecting usb cord
Update drivers
Uninstalled & reinstalled drivers
Stopped & restarted espon...
