How to tell if a printer can be used with a print server

Some printers work better than other when being used with print servers (Windows or otherwise)

For example, I know that the HP Color Laserjet 2500 models have a 'limited' embedded JetDirect print server in them. Some printers don't have one at all but just a Ethernet port. However they are still listed as 'Networkable' on the PDFs.

Is there anyway to tell if a printer would be more of less compatible with a large, print server based environment? Or have a fully capable JetDirect-type controller before buying the printer?
